Pagans wake up
That's the only way to describe eating meat, fish and dairy products and most scientists believe there 's little time left to prevent the catastrophe.
That's the bad news. The good news is ~You don't have to play a part in this rape of the planet.
With one simple decision ~TODAY
You can slash your contribution to all these devasting environmental catastrophies. It could be easier .
Change your diet ~ change the world. Go vegan . You will be healthier and so Will the planet.
Here comes the facts
Meat and dairy animal produce more greenhouse gases than all the world's transport combined. This is fact and not fantasy.
Hang on this is only the beginning.
55 billion animals were slaughtered worldwide last year. Most were factory farmed. Their demand for food is at the heart of all the world's biggest environmental problems.
Livestock contribution to environmental problems is on a massive scale. The impact is so significant that it needs to be addressed with urgency.
United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation.
Global Warming
18 percent of greenhouse gases are produced by livestock farming. more than all the worlds, planes, boats, cars and trains combined. If we don't act soon global warming will become unstoppable.
Pollution
Livestock are responsible for most pollution.
Animal waste, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and chemicals. They are killing coral reefs and diseasing humans.
Acid Rain
About two thirds of the nitrous oxide and ammonia that cause acid rain comes from manure.
Spreading Deserts
Dry areas make up one third of the worldS-land and overgrazing is destroying 73 percent of their ranges.
Over fishing
Fish stocks have been so devastated that 82 percent are on the road to extinction.
Wasted Land
Livestock use up to 70 percent of all agricultural land. many times more people could be fe from the same land on a diet based on plant foods.
Superbugs
Antibiotic resistant bacteria such as E coli and deadly super bugs threatens our children's future and we can largely thank intensive livestock farming.
Extinctions
Wild plants and animals are disappearing up to 1000 times faster than normal because the forest and wild areas where they live have been cleared for animal farming.
So go Vegan.. and get more information and help to change.. www.viva.org.uk
By the way I'm Vegetarian for 24 years , giving birth to children and all of them are healthy and well. Now we all are vegan..

Actually none these are NOT the root problem, look at your data, WE ARE. Im all for global warming, when the Ice caps melt and Gulf stream stops, Gia will go through another cyle in her long life. Look to history or local devistation, Gia always returns to a state of rebirth. |

It's not that we eat meat, it's the way HUMANS have decided to consumerize their production. Without meat humans would have never evolved. Now I don't care if you eat it now or not, whatever blows your skirt up, but don't tell me what to eat. Vegetarianism isn't a Pagan thing, care for our planet is (and some Pagans would even argue that point), so how about a lecture on cleaning up agriculture instead. Hawthorne |

I have a severe/deadly allergy to legumes including various forms of beans and soybeans. If you can suggest a way that I can eat healthy amounts of protein without eating meat or beans, I'll be happy to try it. The last time I asked someone to assist me with finding a solution to my allergies, I was told that I was obviously an "inferior lifeform" that should be executed so that "superior life forms" (i.e. vegans) could have a world free of people like me. Bravo! There are some factors that alleviate the problem slightly but in general what you have written is totally true.
White FeatherYou didn't discuss a couple of nasty facts like the real price of one pound of hamburger is somewhere between $50 and $100 depending on exactly where you live (take out the hidden subsidies and everyone will become vegetarian). Or that 80% of the world's drinking water is consumed by 12% of the people (us) and that one third of all of that consumed water goes to livestock production... too bad for the 30,000 children under five who die every day of the year.
Actually, just by taking out the hidden subsidies on the price of petrol we'd all think several times before starting the engine - the true price of petrol (not including the taxes that are added on) is in the range of $2.80 per litre or roughly $11 a gallon - now think about that and add in your country's taxes on top!
Back to vegetarianism though. I have been mostly vegan for about 19 years, but it is not really possible to be vegan simply because of some practicalities. Obviously one can't use leather products. But one cannot use rubber products either because of the animal fats that go into their production, therefore, we can't drive cars or even bikes because of their tyres. Plastic products don't necessarily use animal products, but they have no earthly value. Many of the vegetables that we eat have been grown in land that has required pesticides to kill animals, these can be chemical or "green" but the result is the same. Simply planting and harvesting vegetables and grains even by hand will kill some animals. Lots of modern products come from places where animals (and of course the environment) are literally sacrificed for a buck).
I still promote near veganism though, despite the fact that it is hard to be perfect - it's still a hell of a lot better than the alternatives!
Good luck!!!!!
